A little ska blog for your dash run by two super cool kids, and everybody thinks that we're so fucking neat. :) Fun fact: the origin of our url is what we strongly believe to be Toh Kay's license plate number, because we saw it on our way to a Streetlight show not far from his hometown. Ye.|

November 29th | Song of the Day | "Wish I Was Aaron"
Artist: I Voted For Kodos
Album: Close Enough for Ska (2000)
I Voted For Kodos, from Madison, Wisconsin, got their start in 1999 when singer and trombonist Rick Bisenius met guitarist Chris Holoyda at a Reel Big Fish concert. The funny thing about this is that by then, the 90s were wrapping up, and so too was the heyday of the third wave of ska. In fact, Reel Big Fish seemed like one of the lucky few that would continue to play in the new millenium with relative success. That didn’t stop IV4K, though, and one year after their formation, they released Close Enough for Ska. Their first full-length release was filled with catchy riffs, tight horns, and wonderfully scathing tongue-in-cheek lyrics. “I Wish I Was Aaron” calls Reel Big Fish out on their success, including a lyrical nod to their smash hit “Sell Out”, and is all about how every band on the block wanted to be as popular as Aaron Barrett and his then-sidekick Scott Klopfenstien. IV4K would disband in 2007, after the new pop/rock direction of their second full-length release, “My New Obsession,” seemed to brush off their ska-hungry fans.
Well Reel Big Fish, you know they’ve got it made,
Because they signed with the record company,
They’re going to get paid.
I said they mess up all the lyrics and they’ve got no style,
Said they’re gonna get it right but it might take a while
So, don’t touch that dial. (I’m talking behind your back!)
